Phase II drafts: 6.56 crore names removed across 12 States/UTs

Deccan Herald reported that 6.56 crore electors had been removed from the Phase II draft rolls, taking the 12 States/UTs from 50.96 crore to 44.4 crore. By reason: 4.64 crore for shifting, 1.46 crore for death and 44.06 lakh for multiple registration, in the absent-shifted-dead/duplicate (ASD) category.

This tally is Deccan Herald's aggregation of state figures, not an ECI total. Summing the state figures in this file gives 6,56,77,106 (Gujarat and Andaman & Nicobar rounded; Rajasthan excludes Anta), consistent with DH.
