Rajiv Kumar joins as Election Commissioner in Lavasa's place

Rajiv Kumar took office as Election Commissioner on 1 September 2020, filling the vacancy left by Ashok Lavasa, under the executive-appointment convention.

Dates are from the tenure table in the Supreme Court's Anoop Baranwal judgment (paragraph 52), which records the executive-only convention in force until 2 March 2023: the President appointed on the Prime Minister's advice, usually a serving or retired Secretary-rank civil servant, and the senior-most EC was elevated to CEC. The table's columns are garbled in the Indian Kanoon text; individual gazette notifications were not opened.
