The first selection under the 2023 Act: a committee of PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury picked Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu from six names presented by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal's search committee. The appointments were notified in the Gazette that evening and both took charge on 15 Mar 2024.
The Supreme Court refused on 15 Mar 2024 to stay the 2023 Act and posted the matter to 21 Mar (The Tribune). Minutes of the committee meeting are not public. 'Documented' covers the appointment (PIB: Gazette notification 14 Mar 2024, charge 15 Mar 2024). The committee's deliberations and shortlist are reported, from Chowdhury's account to IE and PTI; DH/PTI says the Gazette notification was published at 7:36 PM and that Meghwal attended as search committee chairman.
