After the Commission ordered a Special Intensive Revision of West Bengal's electoral rolls, a group of connected petitions - led by Mostari Banu and later including Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and others - came before the same Supreme Court bench that decided the Bihar SIR case. The matter has stayed open through 2026 as an ongoing supervisory proceeding: the Court has directed deployment of judicial officers (including retired judges) to adjudicate claims and objections, protected those officers, and repeatedly sought Commission data on the huge backlog of appeals before the appellate tribunals it ordered set up.
