On polling day for the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly, reported turnout was 58.22% at 5 pm. The next day, All India Radio reported approximately 65.11%, the highest in 30 years. The rise between the 5 pm figure and the final figure later became part of the opposition's dispute.
The final ECI turnout (widely cited as about 66%) was not opened from a primary source.
