CEC Rajiv Kumar, with the two new commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, announced polling in seven phases (19 April, 26 April, 7 May, 13 May, 20 May, 25 May and 1 June) with counting on 4 June 2024, along with assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim. The CEC said there were 97 crore registered voters and over 10.5 lakh polling stations. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal were given seven phases each.
