Twenty-seven days after its notices, the Commission rejected Nadda's defence as not tenable and directed the BJP and its star campaigners to refrain from campaigning along religious or communal lines. It directed Congress not to politicise the defence forces or suggest the Constitution could be abolished or sold. It asked both presidents to issue formal cautions to star campaigners. No action was taken against any individual speaker.
Nadda replied on 13 May after two extensions and Kharge on 6 May after one. The directions came after five of seven phases had polled.
