Rajiv Kumar becomes the 25th Chief Election Commissioner

Rajiv Kumar took charge as the 25th CEC under a Law Ministry Gazette notification dated 12 May 2022. His elevation left an Election Commissioner vacancy that stayed open for six months.

The Supreme Court (Anoop Baranwal, para 187) records that the EC vacancy arose on 15 May 2022 and was filled only on 18 Nov 2022.
